The Eco and Life Science Association organized Go Green – Plant a Sapling, a green initiative for the students of Milagres College, on March 21, 2025, from 3:50 PM to 4:30 PM during the EC/CC Hour. The event was conducted as an open mic session. The program commenced with a prayer song led by the II FND students, setting a reflective and harmonious tone. This was followed by an address from Ms. Shaila Moras, the Eco and Life Science Club Coordinator, who emphasized the significance of planting saplings within and around the college campus. She also introduced the Growing in Bags initiative, a sustainable practice implemented at Milagres College, and elaborated on terrace gardening a method that facilitates the easy cultivation of vegetables on the college rooftop. Following the address, 30 participants from different classes gathered near their growing bags, each ready to sow their selected seeds. As a symbolic gesture of their commitment to nurturing nature, Ms. Shaila Moras, the Eco Club Coordinator, and Ms. Krishnaveni, the II FND Eco Club Secretary, watered the plants. Rev. Dr. Michael L. Santhumayor, the Principal, then addressed the gathering, offering valuable insights on the importance of environmental conservation. He encouraged students to take responsibility for protecting and preserving nature. Additionally, it was announced that the best grown plants would be recognized with cash prizes and trophies on Annual Day. Students were also informed about the ongoing Classroom Cleanliness Drive, reinforcing the college’s commitment to a cleaner and greener environment. The event was skilfully compered by Mr. Clevan of II FND, ensuring a smooth and engaging flow of proceedings. The Go Green – Plant a Sapling initiative was a successful endeavour, fostering environmental awareness and encouraging students to take active steps toward sustainability.
